| Cliff Baile |
Cliff Baile, Distinguished Professor in the departments of animal and dairy science and foods and nutrition and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Agricultural Biotechnology, has been appointed to the board of the Georgia Research Alliance, among the most high-level in the state, with six Fortune 500 CEOs and many of the state’s top business leaders among its members. UGA President Michael F. Adams also is a board member.

| Archie Carroll |
Archie B. Carroll, director of the Non-Profit Management and Community Service Program at the Terry College of Business, has been inducted into the Fellows Group of the Academy of Management.
Carroll was elected as a Fellow from among the AOM’s active membership of 15,885 management academics and practitioners from 91 nations. The Fellows Group numbers around 160 (approximately 1 percent of membership) and nominees for AOM fellowship must be approved by 60 percent of active Fellows.
Bob Izlar, director of the Center for Forest Business in the Warnell School of Forest Resources, received a 2005 Outstanding Adviser Award at the annual Blue Key conference. The award recognized Izlar for his “advising, guidance and dedication to chapter excellence.”

| Sylvia Pannell |
Sylvia Hillyard Pannell, professor and design area head in the drama department, is president-elect of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology Inc. She automatically will become president of USITT, the association of design, production and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry, in July 2006.
A USITT member since 1974, Pannell has served on the organization’s board of directors for 18 years, as chair of its publications committee and as book review editor for the Institute’s journal, TD&T: Theatre Design & Technology. She also has been active with USITT’s Costume Design and Technology Commission since its inception as well as the organization’s international activities.
USITT’s more than 3,500 members include scenery, costume, sound and lighting designers; scenery, costume, sound and lighting technicians; properties, makeup and special effects crafts people; stagehands; architects; theatrical consultants; acousticians, performing arts educators and staff; and performing arts manufacturers, suppliers and distributors throughout the U.S., Canada and 40 other countries.

James “Jim” Porter, a professor in UGA’s Institute of Ecology, received the Eugene P. Odum Education Award from the Ecological Society of America.
Named for late UGA professor Eugene P. Odum, the award recognizes the exceptional work of an individual through teaching, outreach and mentoring activities that help relate basic ecological principles to human affairs. Porter is the first faculty member from UGA to receive this prize, which was established in 2000. |
