Regents approve five new engineering degree programs

Last month the regents approved five new engineering degree programs in three specialty areas at UGA. Bachelor of science degrees in biochemical engineering, computer systems engineering and environmental engineering and master of science degrees in biochemical engineering and environmental engineering all flow out of well-established program areas in the Faculty of Engineering, which the new degrees will be administered, according to Dale Threadgill, Faculty of Engineering director.

“These new degrees are a great stride forward in one of the university’s strategic initiatives, establishing comprehensive engineering at UGA,” Threadgill says. “The degrees complement and build on areas of recognized expertise at the university, particularly in the biological sciences, computer science, chemistry, bioinformatics, ecology and environmental design. The synergy created by linking these disciplines to their application will enable UGA to produce graduates for growing areas in emerging engineering fields, access niche areas of research funding not previously available and ensure UGA’s continued competitiveness among top research universities in the U.S. and around the world.”
