Justin Golshir, an international affairs and finance major from Augusta, spoke on behalf of undergraduates at last month’s Commencement ceremony. An excerpt:

“It’s amazing how much we treasure the material things in life. In reality, they don’t matter much at all. My fondest memories of college were spent chatting with a group of friends or playing games that didn’t cost a thing. Material things can never bring class or character. You will be defined more in life by your education, your integrity and your generosity…

“As we celebrate our graduation, we become part of a University of Georgia tradition. We embrace the pillars of the Arch to guide our future—wisdom, justice and moderation. We are reminded of the wisdom we received in our education at the university, and that this learning process doesn’t stop today; justice in the manner in which we treat our fellow man; and moderation... Well, moderation is a tough one many Georgia fans are still learning today, but in reality moderation is the most important one of all. Let us always remember to give back to the university that has taught us so much, because in the end you live a life with what you get, you make a life by what you give.”
