Crowning glory

Miss UGA 2005 Deondra Rose (left) places a crown on the head of the her successor, Janna Elizabeth Gay. A third-year honor student in public relations and social science education from Twin City, Gay was chosen from among 20 contestants at the 2006 Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant this past month. As Miss UGA 2006, Gay will receive a monetary scholarship, books for one semester and gifts from local sponsoring businesses. She will also participate in the 2006 Miss Georgia Pageant in June. The winner of that pageant will represent Georgia in the 2007 Miss America Pageant.

The first runner-up in the pageant was Allyson Frances Walker, a first-year student from Bainbridge, and second runner-up was Lauren Deanna Ledbetter, a fifth-year student from Cochran. Third runner-up was Jenna Morgan Stanford, a third-year student from Cordele. Fourth runner-up was Ashley Lauren Foster, a second-year student from Evans. One additional award, a “People’s Choice Scholarship,” determined by members of the audience, went to Rebekah Tanice Parker, a first-year student from Covington.
