their payroll checks over the course of a year instead of the current 10-month method.

Open enrollment for the program runs through Feb. 28. Faculty can sign up online (employee.uga.edu).

Though registration ends before March, the changes won’t take effect until August, with the beginning of 2006-2007 academic year.

Employees who wish to remain on the current schedule don’t need to reapply. The option is not available for temporary and part-time faculty who haven’t signed contracts.

Once the open enrollment ends, faculty members cannot choose to opt in or out of the new plan until next year.

Members of the University Council approved the new measure in March in response to a survey showing that faculty overwhelming supported a choice for contracted 10-month employees.

Opting for the 12-month system means less money per month and receiving pay stubs at the end of the month, but the same amount of pay overall (See chart).

It could also mean a change on income tax forms. University officials encourage faculty members to check with tax professionals if they are worried they could be affected.

Questions about the program should be directed to the payroll department at payroll@uga.edu.
