And we’re off…Faculty-staff phase of capital campaign set to kick off March 21 in Tate Student Center
All UGA faculty, staff and retirees are invited to celebrate the campus kickoff of the Archway to Excellence Campaign March 21 from 3-5 p.m. at Georgia Hall in the Tate Student Center. The event includes a reception and brief program that will end with drawings for door prizes.

Four finalists recommended for head diversity post
A UGA search committee has recommended four finalists for the position of associate provost for institutional diversity.
Plant biology professor named inaugural GRA Distinguished Investigator
R. Kelly Dawe, a professor of plant biology and genetics at UGA, has been named the first Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Investigator.
Forum will focus on intelligence oversight in modern world

Committee formed to find permanent public health dean
A search committee has been formed to recommend a candidate to be permanent dean of the university’s College of Public Health.

The college was created in 2004 and began operation in January, 2005, as UGA’s 15th school or college. Phillip L. Williams has served as interim dean since the college started.
Celebrity of the critic: Frederic Jameson makes an impression
It was clear from the packed house at the Chapel, excessive promotion and raucous applause that Duke University’s Frederic Jameson was not just another lecturer.

The cultural critic, author and professor appeared as an intellectual rock star to a chorus of followers. Or at least he did at first.
