President Carter to mark 30th inaugural anniversary at UGA
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, will participate in a conference Jan. 20 at the University of Georgia to commemorate the
30th anniversary of his inauguration as president.

Arch Foundation’s board adds three new trustees
The Arch Foundation has added three members to its board of trustees. They are Maxine H. Burton of Athens, J. David Chatham of Alpharetta and Daniel P. Amos of Columbus.
Crisscrossing China: Redcoat Band shares music and culture during 15-day China tour
Sarah Shelnutt knew something special was happening.

The freshman from Watkinsville had stood in formation with UGA’s Redcoat Band many times before, but this time she and her trumpet were in a sold-out soccer stadium in Chengdu, China—a city of more than five million people located more than a thousand miles southwest of Beijing—as part of the first American college band ever to give a marching performance in a Chinese stadium.
Crisscrossing China: 18 return from first undergrad study abroad in China
After three weeks, three cities and approximately 15,000 miles logged, 18 UGA students are back in the U.S. after participating in the university’s first undergraduate study abroad program in China.
Alternative media center offers aid for students with reading disabilities
More than 6,000 students challenged by learning disabilities, visual impairments and mobility attend the University System of Georgia’s 35 colleges and universities.

A new center based at UGA offers these students and others access to alternative media, assistive technology and training.
Vice president for instruction will retire after nearly 40 years
Del Dunn, vice president for instruction at UGA, will retire Dec. 1, concluding nearly four decades as a UGA faculty member and administrator.
Improv brings creative spark to stage, classroom
As two actors spoke in pseudo French gibberish, two more “translated” the words on the fly, creating a nonsensical narrative that loosely followed the title for their play, suggested seconds before by an audience member: “L’amour, l’amour.”
Instructional learning
Steve Stice presents a lecture about cloning and stem cell research to the Institutional Diversity Summer Institute. Stice, director of the UGA Regenerative Bioscience Center, also gave the group a tour of UGA’s Rhodes Center for Animal and Dairy Science.
Hammer time
Junior Jennifer Dahlgren was named the co-winner of Women’s Field Athlete of the Year Award.
