Magazine ranks UGA among top U.S. public universities
For the eighth consecutive year, UGA is ranked 22nd or higher among the top public universities in the nation, according to the 2007 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” guide. The publication lists UGA as tied for 21st among top public universities and tied for 60th out of
124 institutions overall.

Blueprint for the future:Task force to study graduate education program
With its 100th anniversary approaching, the graduate education program at UGA will undergo a thorough examination aimed at ensuring that strong advanced education remains a centerpiece of UGA’s academic portfolio.

Provost Arnett C. Mace Jr. has appointed a 29-member task force to examine graduate programs and create a “blueprint for the future” to make UGA a national leader in graduate education.
Energy conservation committee issues its recommendations
A committee studying energy conservation said the university can potentially lower energy usage and costs through such steps as auditing buildings for energy waste, closely monitoring use of utilities in buildings, burning biomass with coal in the steam plant and converting to hybrid vehicles that run on renewable fuels.
Fund honoring Capricorn Records co-founder to benefit new music business program
Family and friends of the late music impresario and Capricorn Records co-founder Phil Walden were on campus this month to announce the creation of a memorial fund to support UGA’s recently established Music Business Certificate Program.
Honesty policy nailed down
Many plaques inscribed with the university’s honor code are going up in classrooms and labs across campus as part of a project by the Student Academic Honesty Council and the Office of the Vice President for Instruction to remind students of UGA’s policy and expectations.
Finance and Administration names second class of F&A Fellows
Finance and Administration has selected its 2006-07 participants in the F&A Fellows Program.

Now in its second year, F&A Fellows are part of an overarching program to improve the “bench strength” of the division by broadening employees’ knowledge of the diverse functions of finance and administration; building employees’ individual knowledge, skills and abilities; and forging connections for potential career growth and advancement.
Warren to serve as interim forestry and natural resources dean
Robert J. Warren, a veteran faculty member and noted researcher in UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, will serve as interim dean of the school beginning Dec. 1.
Clinical psychology program earns national ranking in two areas
UGA’s clinical psychology program received high rankings in two areas, according to a study recently released by a prestigious journal in the field.
Rolling out the welcome mat
The Office of the President and the Black Faculty and Staff Organization co-hosted a reception earlier this month in Dean Rusk Hall for new and returning minority faculty and staff.
Airing it out: Environmental health students’ pollution tests let community breathe easier
The industrial solvent trichloroethylene is classified as an animal, and possibly human, carcinogen. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Georgia produces more TCE air pollution than all but seven other states, at about 231,000 pounds a year.
