Ohio State win leads to havoc at home
Local police and firefighters in Columbus, Ohio, responded to a high number of incidents Sept. 9 after the No. 1 ranked Ohio State University football team beat the University of Texas 24-7, the Associated Press reported. The game was played in Austin, Texas, but that didn’t stop the conflagration of more than 30 fires in student neighborhoods and a traffic incident that injured a university administrator.

Barbara Rich, assistant vice president for student affairs at Ohio State, and her husband suffered minor injuries when a car driven by a male cheerleader for the university crashed through a command post set up in the driveway of a student union building. The student was held in county jail until his hearing. The fires resulted in very little damage, the article said.

Stolen computers at University of Minnesota held student, alumni data
Records from more than 13,000 students and alumni of the University of Minnesota might have been lifted from two university-owned computers stolen in August, according to the Associated Press.

Information from Social Security numbers to addresses of students dating back to 1991 could have been stolen, though no evidence of the threat has been found, school officials said. The computers were taken during a nighttime break-in at an office on the Minneapolis campus.
