‘Forgotten Patriot’ exhibition on display
William Few: Forgotten Patriot, an exhibition featuring original manuscripts and correspondence between William Few and Abraham Baldwin and documents relating to the conditions in the state of Georgia during America’s early years is now on display through Sept. 27 at the Turner Gallery in the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library in honor of Constitution Day, Sept. 17.

Few and Baldwin were the two signers of the U.S. Constitution from the state of Georgia who also were close friends and had important ties to the University of Georgia. Two years ago, the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library acquired more than 250 letters of Few, his wife, Catherine, and their daughter, Frances. These letters reveal much about Few’s activities in Georgia until he moved permanently to New York about 1800. Few served as a trustee of UGA from 1785 until 1800. Baldwin, the first president of UGA, is mentioned frequently in Catherine Few’s letters. Baldwin’s papers are located in the university’s archives within the Hargrett Library.

This exhibition is open weekdays from 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. and Saturday, from 1–5 p.m. The Hargrett Library is closed for all home football game days.

Visiting artists from India to speak on business of art, discuss GMOA exhibition
The Georgia Museum of Art is sponsoring a series of lectures and receptions in honor of Jitish Kallat and Reena Kallat, two visiting artists from India. The two have selected works featured in the exhibition Modern Indian Works on Paper, which is on view at the Georgia Museum of Art through Oct. 8.

On Sept. 26 they will give a free lecture at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s M. Smith Griffith Auditorium, where they will discuss their works as well as the overall exhibition’s significance. Following the lecture, the museum will host a reception in the lobby and the galleries will remain open to the public until 7:30 p.m.

On Sept. 28 at 5 p.m., the two will be part of a panel discussion in 314 Sanford Hall focusing on the business side of art, from collecting to creating. The panel also will feature Jim Barsness, a professor of art at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Umesh Gaur, the collector responsible for Modern Indian Works on Paper, Romita Ray, former curator of prints and drawings at the Georgia Museum of Art and current assistant professor of art history at Syracuse University, Srinivas K. Reddy, the director of the Coca-Cola Center for Marketing Studies at the Terry College of Business, and Sandi Turner and Chris Wyrick, owners of Mercury Art Works in Athens.

Following the discussion, there will be a reception in honor of the visiting artists at Mercury Art Works from 7–9 p.m.

UGA football player to be a part of the 2006 national Good Works Team
Senior defensive end Quentin Moses of Athens has been selected one of 11 Division 1-A football players nation-wide for inclusion on the 2006 American Football Coaches Association National Good Works Team.

Moses is the 10th UGA player named to the team since 1992, which is the most of any school in the country behind the University of Nebraska’s 11 players.

The annual team honors players for their dedication and commitment to community service.

“It never ceases to amaze me to see the contributions student-athletes make to their communities,” said Grant Teaff, AFCA executive director.

Moses has participated in numerous community service programs including Habitat for Humanity, St. Mary’s Hospital visitation program, reading programs in local elementary schools, a Hurricane Katrina Relief Project and Athens/Clarke County’s Project REACH.
