BYU to reopen study-abroad center
Brigham Young University will admit 44 students to its newly resumed study-abroad program in Jerusalem next semester. According to the Salt Lake City-based Desert Morning News, the university’s Center for Near Eastern Studies is resuming instruction after being closed for six years due to increasing violence in the region.

The center, which attempted to open this summer, closed when violence between the
Israeli military and Hezbollah in Lebanon began in July. Now that the conflict has subsided, the program is moving forward.

Future programs at the center will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis based on the political and security environment in the region, according to the university’s Web site.

EPA will create assistance center
The Environmental Protection Agency is creating a new assistance center to help colleges and universities comply with environmental legislation, according to a press release from the EPA.

The center is part of an agreement between the EPA and the National Association of College and University Business Officers. According to the release, many colleges and universities maintain “many types of operations, such as laboratories, art studios, utility generation and transmission plants, dormitories, and water distribution systems,” which create environmental management issues.

The center will exist through the Internet to provide information about how to manage and improve these issues at colleges and universities in the U.S.
