Extended library hours
At the request of the Student Government Association, the main and science libraries will extend their closing time by two hours on weekdays to give students more opportunity to study in the libraries. The new hours went into effect Nov. 1.
The libraries close at 2 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday. Previously they closed at midnight. Closing hours will continue to be 9 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The chair of the SGA Academic Committee, and the SGA president and vice president, requested the extended hours on behalf of all students, according to Provost Arnett C. Mace Jr.
“This request was based on the need for additional study areas for UGA students, and given that this is part of our mission to enhance academic rigor, we are happy to make arrangements for these extended hours,” Mace said.
BFSO holiday party
UGA’s Black Faculty and Staff Organization will host its annual holiday party on Dec. 16 from
9 p.m.–1 a.m. at the Navy Supply Corps School (1425 Prince Ave.). Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for all others. Contact Linda Brawner at (706) 542-1439 or Kim Thomas at (706) 542-1564 for tickets or more information.
New telephone prefix
This month, UGA Telephone Services is now assigning the 227 prefix to new telephone numbers allocated on the Athens campus. The 227 prefix joisn two other prefixes currently in use at UGA: 542 and 583.
All features will be the same as the current 542 and 583 telephone numbers that are assigned to UGA users and devices. Calls can be made between the three prefixes using five-digit dialing; for example,
7-6962 can be dialed instead of (706) 227-6962.
The new prefix is required due to continued growth of the UGA campus. A number of new facilities have been constructed over the past several years, and communications are required for phone lines and faxes in these new facilities.
There are currently 11,400 lines on the 542 and 583 prefixes. As planned, the 227 prefix will add as many as 400 lines to the existing pool of numbers assigned to UGA devices. It has been eight years since the last addition of a new prefix, when the 583 prefix was added in October 1998.
Direct questions regarding the new prefix to the UGA Telephone Services,
(706) 542-6962.
