Linda Campbell, professor of counseling psychology in the College of Education, was named president of the Georgia State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for a five-year term.
The board grants licenses to practice psychology in Georgia and investigates complaints against psychologists. Campbell will preside over monthly meetings of the board and also represent Georgia at the annual Association of State Boards of Examiners of Psychologists.
Dorothy Figueira, professor of comparative literature, was named president pro tem of the International Comparative Literature Association.
She had served on the board for the association for two years prior, during which time she also served as vice president.
Figueira also has served on the boards of the American Comparative Literature Association, the Southern Comparative Literature Association and the Southern Association for Asian Studies.
Brain Glaser and Edward Delgado-Romero, professors in the College of Education’s department of counseling and human services, were made Fellows of the American Psychological Association.
Glaser was made a Fellow in the Society of Counseling Psychology, and Delgado-Romero was made a Fellow in the Society of Ethnic Minority Issues.
Both professors were nominated by their peers for the honor because of their outstanding contributions in the field in psychology. Election to Fellow status also requires that a person’s contribution demonstrated national impact.

Cecelia Hinton, curator of education at the Georgia Museum of Art, was named the inaugural Georgia Museum Educator of the Year by the Georgia Museum Educators.
The award recognizes the impact museum educators make in Georgia by focusing on quality of education and increasing awareness of museum education among museum professionals and the public. The programs Hinton has created have brought thousands of people to the Georgia Museum of Art.
James E. Kundell, senior public service associate and director of the Environmental Policy Program at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway.

The committee advises the staff of the center as well as the Woodruff Foundation, which supports the center financially. The Jones Center is a research and education outdoor laboratory dedicated to natural resources management and conservation in the southeastern coastal plain of the U.S.
Diana and Milton Lieberman, both professors of ecology, were presented Honorary Park Guards Awards in honor of the 20th annual National Parks Day in Costa Rica. Winners of this honor are selected because of their role in consolidating protected wilderness and conservation areas. The Liebermans offer two UGA study-abroad programs in Costa Rica every year, and have lived and worked in the tropics since 1969. |
