Phaedra Corso, associate professor of health policy in the department of heath administration, biostatistics and epidemiology in the College of Public Health, has been elected vice president of the Society for Medical Decision Making.

The society promotes an integrated approach to healthcare decision making by relying on multiple perspectives and disciplines in the hopes that communication in medical decision making will create informed, shared decisions by policy-­makers, physicians, the public and patients.

Robert Golembiewski
Robert T. Golembiewski, distinguished research professor emeritus in the School of Public and International Affairs, was presented the Exceptional Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Conference on Advances in Management. The award was given based on Golembiewski’s contributions throughout his career to the disciplines of public administration, organization theory and organization development. The International Conference on Advances in Management is the primary professional association for international students of management.

Don McLellan
Don McLellan, diversity relations director in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, was named a national role model by Minority Access Inc., a nonprofit organization that administers the project with aid from the Office of Minority Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Leara Rhodes, associate professor of journalism, received the Haitian Studies Association’s Award for Service at the 18th annual conference of the Haitian Studies Association. The honor is awarded to those who contribute beyond the usual to the Haitian community and to the Haitian Studies Association.

Michele Simpson, professor emeritus of academic enhancement, was inducted as a Fellow to the American Council of Developmental Education Association. Fellows are selected based on their long-term, significant contributions to their field, especially in research and publication.

Jennifer Smith, assistant professor of telecommunications, was a faculty delegate to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation’s Faculty Seminar in Los Angeles. The seminar offered professors, deans, chairs and instructors a chance to see how prime-time entertainment works behind the scenes. Smith was chosen by a selection committee to be a delegate.

Mary Stakes, director of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s civil education program, received the 2006 President’s Award from the Georgia Council for the Social Studies. The award is given annually to an individual who displays outstanding commitment to furthering social studies education in Georgia and contributes time and service to the council.

Barbara A. White, chief information officer and associate provost, was nominated for the 2006 Quality Leadership Executive of the Year Southeast Awards. Nominees were selected from a group of chief information officers and executives who have made significant contributions to the successful convergence of technology and business.
