Exporting jazz
David Lambert, assistant director of bands at UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will perform as a guest artist with the Wind Ensemble at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. Thanks to Internet technology, the concert will be broadcast via Internet2 (www.internet2.edu) to an overseas university, most likely in Japan, as it happens.

As part of the performance, the group will play Concerto, an original composition by Lambert. The Internet broadcast is part of a cultural exchange program featuring American jazz. For more information, visit www.uah.edu/windensemble/index.html.

Career fair
The Career Center will hold a Government and Nonprofit Career Fair Feb. 21 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. in Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center. The fair is open to UGA faculty, staff and students who want to meet with representatives from government and nonprofit agencies to discuss full-time and internship opportunities.

Friends of Fanning
The Fanning Institute will honor its friends and supporters during a special event Feb. 23 from 2–4 p.m. The screening of Vision, Legacy and Action, which highlights the institute’s outreach and mission will be followed by a reception and tours of the J.W. Fanning Building. Speakers will include Art Dunning, vice president for public service and outreach; Dink NeSmith, chair of the J.W. Fanning Building Fund; and Karen E. Holt, director of the Fanning Institute. This event will pay tribute to the Friends of Fanning, those who contributed to the building fund and others who honor the continuing influence of J.W. Fanning, UGA’s first vice president for services.

Caregiving fair
A Family Caregiving Fair will be held Feb. 17 from 10 a.m.– 1 p.m. at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church. The fair will provide information about resources in the Athens area for those who care for an aging parent, spouse or sibling. The fair, which is being publicized as part of a public relations class at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, will feature a panel discussion with local aging specialists and service providers as well as free health screenings, door prizes and refreshments. More information is available online (www.uga.edu/athensfc101) or by e-mail (uga.bateman@gmail.com).
