Costas to host Peabody Awards ceremony
Bob Costas, one of television’s most accomplished broadcasters, will host the 66th annual George Foster Peabody Awards ceremony on June 4 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

The winners of the Peabody Awards for original broadcast, cablecast and Webcast programs presented in 2006 will be announced via Webcast and satellite on April 5 from the university.

A multiple Emmy Award winner, Costas has anchored television coverage of seven Olympic Games (including primetime host from the 2006 Games in Torino, Italy) and participated in the broadcast of virtually every major sports event from the Super Bowl to the World Series. A 27-year veteran of NBC Sports who joined HBO Sports in February 2001, Costas currently hosts Costas Now, a topical sports series.

During his first four years at HBO, Costas hosted On the Record With Bob Costas, which established itself as one of network television’s most respected programs for its compelling mix of interviews, commentary and opinion. In addition, since 2002, he has been a co-host of HBO’s award- winning football program, Inside the NFL.

From August 1988 through January 1994, he hosted his own late-night interview show, Later with Bob Costas, on NBC; the program won the 1993 Emmy Award for outstanding informational series. Costas has been honored as sportscaster of the year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association a record eight times.

Terry College of Business to open second M.B.A. program location in Buckhead
Beginning in August, UGA’s Terry College of Business will offer its Evening M.B.A. degree at two locations in Atlanta. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved UGA’s request to begin teaching Evening M.B.A. classes at the Terry College’s Executive Education Center in Buckhead.

Terry’s Evening M.B.A. degree has been offered as a part-time program in Gwinnett County since 2000. The program in Gwinnett has grown steadily, with almost 250 students currently enrolled. Terry’s Buckhead facility, which opened two years ago, is located near the intersection of Peachtree and Lenox roads, across from Lenox Square Mall, and is already the base of operation for the college’s Executive M.B.A. degree program.

Students interested in enrolling for fall may start the admissions process immediately. Don Perry, director of the program, said the target enrollment at the Buckhead location will be as many as 50 students, and he expects a strong demand for seats in the inaugural class.

Law library receives workplace award
The UGA School of Law’s Alexander Campbell King Law Library was awarded the Briggs Award by Briggs and Associates, an employment agency specializing in custom career design and support for people with disabilities, earlier this month. The award recognizes employers who embody the Shakespearean philosophy “there’s place and means for every man alive” and who make efforts to create a workplace that reflects the entire community.

Briggs and Associates career specialists Jennifer Bradford, Audra Pursell and Jennifer Fobart, who provide career assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities, and regional director Mollee Atkinson nominated the law library for the honor due to its work with employee Janeanne Napoli.

Recipients are chosen based on the long-term commitment to the Briggs philosophy, the leadership to create jobs not traditionally available to people with developmental disabilities and the daily demonstration of the values inscribed on the award: believing in people, recognizing individual potential, instigating inclusive work staffs, generating supportive work environments, giving back to the community and serving as an example to other employers.
