UGA’s first associate provost for strategic planning is chosen

Robin J. Tricoli, an experienced manager in strategic planning, budgeting and citizen engagement at universities, has been chosen to fill the new position of associate provost for institutional strategic planning.

Tricoli, most recently assistant to the president of California State University, Fresno, begins work Feb. 15 pending approval of her appointment by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.

Tricoli will be responsible for evaluating the status of goals and accomplishments under UGA’s current 10-year strategic plan, adopted in 2000, and beginning development of a new strategic plan for the period 2010-2020.

Tricoli oversaw creation of strategic plans at California State University, Fresno, and at Northern Kentucky University, where she was executive assistant to the president and secretary to the board of regents.

“Dr. Tricoli brings significant experience and expertise to thisposition that is vital to our future strategic planning for various programs at the University of Georgia,” said Provost Arnett C. Mace Jr. “I look forward to working with her in this role, which will involve the university community.”

Mace said Tricoli’s experience also will be valuable for other special projects at UGA such as the university’s proposal for a health sciences program on the Navy Supply Corps School property in Athens, should that proposal be accepted by the Local Redevelopment Authority.

At California State University at Fresno, Tricoli oversaw creation of a five-year strategic plan that included a $100 million capital campaign. She also led an initiative to link university research with needs of the San Joaquin Valley community, building partnerships between the university and civic and government leaders to focus on workforce and economic development. At Northern Kentucky University, where she functioned as the president’s chief of staff, Tricoli managed the five-year strategic planning process, was a member of the university’s budget strategy group and managed five budgets in the president’s office.

Tricoli received a doctorate in interpersonal and organizational communication from the University of Kentucky and completed the Civic Engagement Institute sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. She also attended the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
