New self-service Web site for employee information launches

A new self-service UGA Web site is offering cutting-edge technology that will save administrative costs and give employees greater ease and convenience.

Instead of receiving a password-protected e-mail, UGA employees can now access their electronic pay stubs—both current and any issued in 2006—by going to www.employee.uga.edu and entering their MyID password. E-mail pay stubs will be phased out over a two-month period beginning in March. Employees who currently receive a paper pay stub will continue to do so. The self-service Web site also provides access to information on benefit packages and to check annual and sick leave balances.

“Anytime we are able to reduce paper from the administrative process, we can save the cost of purchasing the forms, storing and accounting for the forms, printing the stubs and distributing them,” said Bob McGee, associate controller in finance and administration and chair of the committee that oversees the self-service Web site. “We also save costs associated with providing duplicate pay stubs and prior period pay stubs for employees who may need them to obtain a mortgage or use them for other purposes. With this new service, employees can obtain their own copies without having to go to the Payroll Office and can even access their checks from the past year.”

More is planned for the site, including W-2 forms and information related to employee benefit services and programs, McGee added.

“We also anticipate having the site serve as a ‘work desk’ where an employee will access work-related business information such as processing and approving payroll vouchers, check requests and purchase orders,” he said. “We would like to see the site grow to serve as the one place an employee would need to go to access both business and UGA-related personal information.”
