Break in publication
Because of spring break, Columns will not be published on March 12. Regular weekly publication of the newspaper resumes March 19. Submit announcements for that issue by 5 p.m. March 7.

Online calendars
If prior to Jan. 12 UGA employees placed any meetings on their University Calendar Service for the dates March 11–31 and Oct. 28–Nov. 4, 2007, the meetings are now off by one hour and must be manually re-entered with the correct time. Any meetings within these dates that have been placed on your calendar since Jan. 12 are not affected.

This change comes after the university updated its calendar system to account for the new beginning and end of Daylight Savings Time. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 moved the time-change date in the spring and fall. Beginning this year, DST begins the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November. Previously, it began the first Sunday in April and ended the last Sunday in October.

Operating systems and applications programmed under the old DST rules are being modified. EITS patched the UGA Calendar Service on Jan. 12.

Golf tournament
A four-person scramble will be held at the UGA Golf Course March 17. Tee time starts at 10 a.m. Registration for the tournament, which is open to everyone, is $70 per player ($50 for UGA Golf Course members). Sign up by March 16. For more information, call (706) 369-5739.

Costa Rica applications
Applications are being accepted for a 14-day trip to Costa Rica in May. Enrollment is limited, but open to UGA and non-UGA students. Academic credit is available. More information is available online (www.uga.edu/costarica/program_maymester_gorp.htm).

Open house
The Office of International Education will hold an open house from 3–5 p.m. March 7 in its new location in the Bank of America Building at 110 East Clayton St. OIE, which houses International Students, Scholars and Immigration Services, the Study-Abroad Office and the UGA Costa Rica Office, relocated to the Bank of America Building Feb. 26. Units will be located on the third and fourth floors of the building. ISSIS and the OIE administrative offices are housed on the fourth floor, and the study-abroad and UGA Costa Rica Offices are on the third floor. New phone numbers for units are: study-abroad (706) 425-3274; Costa Rica (706) 425-3318; immigration (706) 425-3154; and administrative offices (706) 425-2946.

Award nominations
The Office of International Student Life and the Peermahomed Selection Committee at UGA are seeking nominations for the 2007 Saeeda Peermahomed Award.

The award is given annually to a currently-enrolled international student for outstanding scholarship, leadership and service in the field of international education. Specifically, the selection committee seeks to identify students who have been the most actively involved in international programs and/or activities on campus while maintaining their academic status.

Nominations are due to International Student Life by 5 p.m. on March 23. All nominations must include a cover letter detailing the student’s eligibility as well as the nominee’s résumé and UGA student ID number.

The recipient will receive a certificate, a plaque and an award of not less than $500. In addition, the recipient’s name will be added to a plaque permanently displayed in the International Student Life office in Memorial Hall.

For more information, call (706) 542-5867, e-mail (ugaisl@uga.edu) or go online (www.uga.edu/isl).
