Break in publication
Because of spring break, Columns will not be published on March 12. Regular weekly publication of the newspaper resumes March 19. Submit announcements for that issue by 5 p.m. March 7.
Online calendars
If prior to Jan. 12 UGA employees placed any meetings on their University Calendar Service for the dates March 11–31 and Oct. 28–Nov. 4, 2007, the meetings are now off by one hour and must be manually re-entered with the correct time. Any meetings within these dates that have been placed on your calendar since Jan. 12 are not affected.
This change comes after the university updated its calendar system to account for the new beginning and end of Daylight Savings Time. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 moved the time-change date in the spring and fall. Beginning this year, DST begins the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November. Previously, it began the first Sunday in April and ended the last Sunday in October.
Operating systems and applications programmed under the old DST rules are being modified. EITS patched the UGA Calendar Service on Jan. 12.
Golf tournament
A four-person scramble will be held at the UGA Golf Course March 17. Tee time starts at 10 a.m. Registration for the tournament, which is open to everyone, is $70 per player ($50 for UGA Golf Course members). Sign up by March 16. For more information, call (706) 369-5739.
