Second Life workshop
The Center for Teaching and Learning will hold a Second Life Introductory Workshop on Sept. 13 from 2–3:30 p.m. in Room 372 of the Student Learning Center.
The workshop will discuss the rapidly growing virtual world and how it can be used for educational purposes. It also will introduce new users to avatars, terraforming and 3-D modeling, while exploring some of the exciting educational destinations that have been created in Second Life. The class will visit the virtual Sistine Chapel and experience a simulated tsunami.

New faculty reception
The Institute for Women’s Studies will host a reception for new faculty members on Sept. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Reception Hall of the Tate Student Center. Open to the university community, the reception welcomes female faculty hired in the past year. It is a way for new faculty to learn about UGA and Athens, as well as to meet other scholars and potential research/teaching collaborators.
At this year’s reception, Wyatt Anderson, former dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and professor of genetics, and William Prokasy, former vice president for academic affairs, will receive the 2007 Women’s Studies Faculty Award, which honors those who have made significant contributions to women’s studies at UGA and to the lives of women on campus.
