Basketball tickets
Tickets for the men’s and women’s basketball teams’ 2007–2008 season can be ordered online (www.georgiadogs.com), by telephone (706) 542-1231] or in person at the Athletic ­Association’s ticket office. Both season ticket packages include a reserved seat ticket to 16 regular-season home games, in addition to any exhibition games on the respective schedules. The teams open their home schedule with a Nov. 9 doubleheader the evening before the home football game with Auburn. The women’s team will play Richmond at 6:30 p.m.; the men’s game against Jacksonville State will follow. Season tickets for the men’s basketball team are $112.50 for UGA faculty and staff and $225 for the general public. Season tickets for the women’s basketball team are $25.

Faculty research grants
The deadline to submit proposals for internal financial support of research projects through the Faculty Research Grants Program is Oct. 2.

Eligibility is limited to instructors and assistant professors who are on tenure-track appointments, and to individuals holding the appointment of permanent assistant research scientist in the university “Research Professionals” classification system. Temporary, visiting, adjunct or part-time faculty are not eligible. Postdoctoral research associates also are not eligible.

Proposals in the humanities and arts must be submitted to the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, which also offers a separate grants program for senior faculty in the humanities and arts. More information is available online (www.cha.uga.edu).

Faculty who were previously awarded a grant but who have not turned in an initial or final report as required are not eligible for new grant funding.

Research volunteers
Researchers in the department of foods and nutrition are conducting a study to investigate the effects of zinc on bone health. Healthy female children ages 9-10 may qualify. Benefits include fee body composition tests, dietary analysis, growth evaluation and mineral supplementation. Modest compensation (up to $75) is provided.

Award nomination deadlines
The nomination deadline for the 2008 Walter Barnard Hill Awards for Distinguished Achievement in University Public Service and Outreach and for the Walter Barnard Hill Distinguished Public Service Fellow Award is Sept. 28. The Hill Awards honor outstanding public service and outreach work by UGA faculty. For more information, contact Steve Dempsey by phone at (706) 542-6045 or email at dempsey@uga.edu.

Nominations for the third annual Public Service and Outreach Staff Award for Excellence, which recognizes staff members whose work demonstrates distinguished achievement in support of public service and outreach programming at UGA, are due by Oct. 12.
