UGA Libraries research awards deadline
UGA Libraries has announced increased prize amounts for this year’s UGA Libraries Undergraduate Research Awards. The awards consist of seven cash prizes totaling $2,000 for students who demonstrate distinction in research and academic inquiry.
To apply for the award, students will meet with a librarian for a one-on-one research conference and submit a three-to-four page paper describing their research process, sources used and any special discoveries they made while preparing their project. Applicants must be currently enrolled in the CURO program or, if seniors, submit abstracts of their projects to the CURO symposium in addition to applying for the research award. UGA librarians and other faculty will judge the essays and select the winners based on the students’ demonstrations of sophistication in the use of library collections, ability to synthesize library resources into an original project and evidence of significant personal learning and development. The UGA Libraries encourage instructors to inform their students of this opportunity for scholarly recognition.
Deadlines for the 2007-2008 awards cycle are: completion of research conference, Feb. 15; submission of essay and other application materials, Feb. 29. Winners will be announced during CURO’s annual symposium on March 31.
The Undergraduate Research Award was established to encourage scholarship and emphasize the research process using library resources and services. Additional information is available online (www.libs.uga.edu/researchaward/).
