Lawsuit over University of North Dakota’s mascot settled
The University of North Dakota and the NCAA have come to an agreement over a lawsuit stemming from the university’s mascot, the “Fighting Sioux,” the Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The agreement gives the university three years to receive mascot approval from two predominant Sioux tribes in the state.

If the tribes accept the mascot, the university will have permission from the NCAA to continue using it. The organization sometimes bans colleges from using imagery depicting American Indians that it deems degrading.

If the tribes don’t accept the mascot, the university will have to find a new one that is in accordance with NCAA policy.

University of California System launches admissions data Web site
The University System of California announced plans to launch a Web site providing visitors with access to a variety of admissions data for the system’s 10 campuses, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The database, called U.C. StatFinder, will make available information dating back several years, including hometowns of students attending the university and the racial and geographic makeup of the school. The system also plans to add additional data within the next year.
