New teaching series
The Teaching Academy will launch a new Lunch and Learn series Nov. 14 at noon in Memorial Hall. The first session, “Teaching in the Large Classroom,” is a discussion on how to promote active learning in sizable classes. Peggy Brickman, biology, Janet Frick, psychology, and Marcus Fechheimer, cellular biology, will facilitate the discussion. There will be no lecture or formal presentation. Woman’s Club luncheon tickets
Tickets for the University Woman’s Club annual holiday luncheon are on sale until Dec. 4. The luncheon will be held Dec. 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the Athens Country Club. Entertainment will be provided by Wood ‘n’ Nickel, a woodwind quintet. Tickets, which are $25, are available at club meetings or by mail. Parents and families grant application deadline
The deadline to apply for 2008 Parents and Families Association Grants is Jan. 18. The award is intended to enhance the educational experience of undergraduate students by supporting projects and activities that are not funded through the normal budgeting process. Break in publication
Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, Columns will not be published on Nov. 26. Regular weekly publication of the newspaper resumes Dec. 3. The deadline to submit announcements for that issue is Nov. 14.
