Gary W. Barrett, holder of the Odum Chair of Ecology, was recognized for his long-term service to the Association of Ecosystem Research Centers at the group’s recent annual meeting at the
Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Barrett also was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual banquet of the Institute of Environmental Sciences held at Miami University of Ohio.

Edward Delgado-Romero, an associate professor in the department of counseling and human development services, has been named to the editorial board of The Counseling Psychologist, the premier journal of counseling psychology, a division of the American Psychological Association. He also recently was named a Fellow of the Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues by the American Psychological Association.
Rachel Gabara, an associate professor in the department of Romance languages, has won the SAMLA Studies Award from the South Atlantic Modern Language Association for her book, From Split to Screened Selves: French and Francophone Autobiography in the Third Person (Stanford University Press, 2006). The award will be formally presented at the group’s conference in Atlanta this month. The award honors the author of an outstanding scholarly book published during the previous calendar year. It provides a $1,000 honorarium to the author and a complimentary convention registration for the year when the award is to be given.
Corey W. Johnson and Gwynn M. Powell, assistant professors in the department of counseling and human development services, have been elected new co-editors for Schole: A Journal of Leisure Studies and Recreation Education. Schole is the official refereed publication of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, a branch of the National Recreation and Park Association. The journal disseminates knowledge related to park and recreation courses, curricula and teaching. It also addresses a range of issues concerning graduate and undergraduate education such as curriculum planning and design, teaching methods, accreditation as well as trends and their impacts.

Kevin McCully, a professor in the department of kinesiology and director of the Exercise Vascular Biology Laboratory, has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. McCully, who studies the effects of aging and disease on muscle metabolism and functional capacity, is the sixth Fellow named from UGA’s kinesiology department.
Anneliese Singh, an assistant professor in the department of counseling and human development services, has been appointed to the editorial board of the Journal for Specialists in Group Work. The journal is affiliated with the Association of Specialists in Group Work, which is a division of the American Counseling Association. It focuses on the research and practical application of group counseling in a variety of settings. |
