Group welcome meeting
The Learning in Retirement group will hold its winter welcome meeting Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Athens Holiday Inn Express, located at 513 West
Broad St.
Anyone interested in becoming a new member should meet at 9:30 a.m. Registration is available at this meeting or by mail.
New winter courses for the semester have been scheduled, including
46 courses lasting between one and five days, four lunch-and-learn sessions, three travel-study events and four social activities.

Application deadline
The Honors Program is currently accepting applications from UGA undergraduate researchers who would like to present their original research and creative works at the 2008 Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities spring symposium, which will be held March 31 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. Interested students must submit an application, an abstract of no more than 250 words describing the research project and a supporting letter from the sponsoring faculty member by Jan. 18. via the CURO Web site, www.uga.edu/honors/curo. All applicants will be notified by mid-February.
Safe Space training
The LGBT Resource Center will offer Safe Space training Jan. 17 from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The orientation intends to raise awareness and
knowledge of LGBT issues, including being an LGBT ally. It is an initiative for inclusion, acceptance and support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the university community.

Auction donations
The College of Veterinary Medicine’s student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association is seeking donations for a benefit auction at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia Visitor’s Center on Feb. 16. Doors open and silent bidding begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., with a live auction beginning at 8 p.m.
This auction, the biggest fundraiser for SCAVMA, will provide support for veterinary students who are pursuing advanced degrees through the veterinary medicine college.
Admission to the auction will include dinner and live entertainment by a violin group and Swung, a swing dance performance troupe. Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance or $25 if purchased at the door.
