Grading system forum
On Jan. 30, the Office of the Vice President for Instruction will hold a forum for faculty members to provide feedback on the plus/minus grading system.

The forum will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Room 213 of the Student Learning Center.

Approved by the board of regents in March 2006, the pilot program’s effectiveness will be assessed before the end of the three-year period. This forum serves to help the Office of the Vice President for Instruction gather information to determine the success of the plus/minus grading system.

WIP proposal deadline
The Franklin College Writing Intensive Program is accepting Arts and Sciences faculty proposals for innovative courses for the 2008-2009 academic year that encourage writing.

Selected proposals will be supported by a specially trained graduate teaching assistant, who will serve as a “writing coach” for the students enrolled. Information about course guidelines and submission forms can be found on the program’s Web site: www.wip.uga.edu.

Completed proposals are due Feb. 8 and should be sent to Michelle Ballif, Writing Intensive Program director, 254 Park Hall, or to mballif@uga.edu.

Grant proposals
The Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach is accepting proposals for the 2008-2009 Scholarship of Engagement Grants program, which supports domestic and international outreach by permanent, full-time public service, academic tenure-track or clinical faculty members. The proposal deadline is March 31.

Guidelines for domestic projects are available at http://outreach.uga.edu/publications. Guidelines for projects in Africa, China and Southeast Asia or Latin America (Central and South America and Mexico) are available at www.uga.edu/internationalpso/grants.html.

A question-and-answer session will be held Jan. 24 from 3:30–5 p.m. in Rooms T/U of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.
