Sergio Quesada (right), an anthropology lecturer, takes a moment to talk to Coile Middle School students Enrique Salazar (left) and Jorge Esquivel, who are both in alumna Kelli Bivins’ English as a Second Language social studies class. Quesada, a native of Mexico, has spoken to classes about Mexican history and the importance of being bilingual and bicultural as many of the students have recently immigrated to the U.S. The students visit him at UGA’s Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute, where he tries to be a positive male role model to the students, many of whose fathers and families still live in Mexico.
