Jan Davis Barham, assistant to the vice
president for assessment and staff development, and Joel H. Scott, doctoral intern for student affairs assessment, who work in the Division of Student Affairs, are currently serving in elected positions on the Assessment and Research Directorate of American College Personnel Association, a national organization for Student Affairs
professionals.
Terence J. Centner, professor in the department of agricultural and applied economics, was awarded the 2007 Professional Scholarship Award by the American Agricultural Law Association. The award recognized Centner’s proposal for an undeveloped land protection act that would offer owners of farmlands, forests and natural areas greater protection against nuisance lawsuits. The research was published in the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum.

David Landau |
David P. Landau,
Distinguished Research Professor of physics, won the 2007 Nicholson Medal for Human Outreach from the American Physical Society. The award is presented annually to recognize the humanitarian aspect of physics and physicists. Recognition consists of the Nicholson Medal, a certificate and up to $1,500 for travel expenses to the meeting at which the medal will be presented.
Landau received the award for his internationally recognized work in computational physics and his creation and leadership of the UGA Center for Simulational Physics.
Leigh Poole associate director of intercultural affairs and director of international student life, serves on the National and Regional Committees for International Student and Scholar Services for NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Teresa Raetz, director of student affairs for UGA’s campus in Gwinnett, is currently the chair of the Commission for Graduate and Professional School Educators in the American College Personnel Association, a national organization for student affairs professionals.
Robin Shelton, assistant professor of astronomy, presented an invited talk on the “Diffuse Interstellar Medium” at the Suzaku X-ray Universe conference held Dec 10-12 in San Diego. The Astrophysics Science Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center invited Shelton to give the talk. Many of the scientific results came from work performed in collaboration with David Henley and Shijun Lei, both in UGA’s physics and astronomy department.
Barbara A. White, chief information officer and associate provost, received the 2007 Quality Leadership Executive Visionary Award from the Executive Alliance, creator and provider of premium leadership recognition forums worldwide.
The Visionary Award recognizes an individual for exemplary initiatives in strategic planning, foresight, thought leadership and the employment of quality assurance to support organizational objectives. QLE Visionary Awards honor both an executive from an end-user company and an executive from a software company. White received her award in the end-user company category. |
