Casimir Akoh |
Casimir Akoh, a research professor in the department of food science and technology, has been appointed the 2008–2011 Chair Professor in the department of food science and biotechnology at National Chung Hsing University in Taichung, Taiwan.
Akoh also received the Stephen S. Chang Award for Lipid Science or Flavor Science and the Research and Development Award for significant research and development from the Institute of Food Technologists. He will receive the awards at the group’s annual meeting, June 28-July 1 in New Orleans. Akoh also has been named associate editor of the Journal of Food Science’s food chemistry section. In addition, he has been elected president of the American Oil Chemists’ Society for 2008-2009.
Linda Campbell, a professor in the College of Education’s department of counseling and human development services, has been named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association psychology division.
It is Campbell’s second time being named an APA Fellow; she was named a Fellow of the psychotherapy division in 2002. Fellow status is an honor bestowed upon APA members who have shown unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in the field of psychology. Their work also must have had a national impact on the field of psychology beyond a local, state or regional level.
Stacey Neuharth-Pritchett, an associate professor in the College of Education’s department of educational psychology and instructional technology, was appointed to the Head Start Program Performance Standards Review panel by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
She is one of 32 panelists from across the nation charged with providing state-of-the-art evidence relating to the functioning of the Head Start program. The panel also will offer guidance in revising the standards for the $7 billion federal program.

Rakesh Singh |
Rakesh Singh, professor and head of the department of food science and technology, will be honored as an Institute of Food Technologists Fellow at the group’s annual meeting, which will be held June 28- July 1 in New Orleans. Singh is being honored for research in food engineering, leadership in strengthening the university’s food science program and student mentoring.
The Institute of Food Technologists is a nonprofit scientific society with 22,000 members working in food science, food technology and related professions in industry, academia and government. Election as an IFT Fellow is a unique professional distinction conferred for outstanding contributions in the field of food science and technology.

William Vencill |
William Vencill, professor of crop and soil sciences, was named an outstanding reviewer of academic journals by the Weed Science Society of America at the group’s annual meeting in Chicago.
Vencill was honored for his work outside the classroom and in crop fields. The Weed Science Society of America is a nonprofit professional society that promotes research, education and extension outreach activities related to weeds. |
