Researchers win $9.2 million stem cell grant from NIH
A research group led by Stephen Dalton, professor and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar of Molecular Biology at UGA, has been awarded $9.2 million as part of a major new research grant by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health.

Meetings set for comment on draft NBAF report
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will seek public comment on the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility Draft Environmental Impact Statement at two meetings Aug. 14 in Mahler Auditorium at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.
Newest GRA Eminent Scholar working to expand tree biofuel technology
UGA’s bioenergy initiative has received a boost with the successful recruitment of forestry scientist Chung-Jui Tsai, who joins the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources as the latest Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar.

Young Dawgs: High schoolers spend their summer working on campus
Deniqua Mitchell didn’t exactly expect to spend her summer dissecting lab rats.

When the Cedar Shoals High School sophomore learned she would be working at the College of Pharmacy as part of the Young Dawgs summer apprenticeship program, she thought it would be more like working at one of the local drugstores than doing the clerical and other lab-related tasks supervisor and mentor Vivia Hill-Silcott assigned her.
