Nobel Peace winner to participate in 20th CITS anniversary event
Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize will be among leading security experts speaking on a panel entitled “Opportunities and Challenges: Nuclear Renaissance, Disarmament, Terrorism and Proliferation” on March 18 at 10 a.m. in Masters Hall at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

Plain-spoken research scientist will give this year’s Charter Lecture
Robert Hazen, an award-winning researcher whose knack for conveying technical scientific information in everyday language has made him a best-selling author and popular speaker, will deliver UGA’s Charter Lecture March 18.
From trash to treasure: UGA competes to win prizes based on recycling garbage
As part of a national competition, UGA is trying to recycle more than any other college or university. To that end, the university is tracking its weekly volume of trash and recyclables, trying to keep the most amount of materials out of the local landfill.
Finalists named for directorship of Environmental Safety Division
Four finalists have been named for the position of associate vice president of UGA’s Environmental Safety Division. They will be on campus starting March 9 for interviews and meetings with faculty and staff
Winter snow storm blankets campus
UGA closed March 2 after Athens received 6 ½ inches of snow March 1—the most snow since Athens received 7.1 inches in 1987.
New online tool will replace WebCT
The new online learning tool eLearning Commons—essentially an online learning environment for posting class materials, communicating with class members and assessing student learning—will fully replace WebCT by January 2010
New director named for Gwinnett Campus
A new director for UGA’s graduate and continuing education programs offered in Gwinnett has been named. Ruth Bettandorff, who has served as associate director for learning services at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel since 2004, will succeed Janet Sandor, who retired in December.
Purdue professor to discuss ‘renaissance engineers’
David F. Radcliffe, a faculty member at Purdue University, will visit UGA on March 16 to discuss the development of what he calls “renaissance engineers.”
Rec Sports fit for new projects
Walking with Mitch Gartenberg through the Ramsey Student Center is an affecting experience.

As he strolls through the center he directs, things become more than what they seem. He sees the momentum of four new projects in which the department is involved, and keeps a mental tab of the progress that’s being made and its inevitable effect on its patrons.
