$3.1 million grant allows CCRC to stay a national resource
The Department of Energy has awarded UGA’s Complex Carbohydrate Research Center a four-year, $3.1 million grant to continue as a national resource for researchers who study the complex carbohydrates of plants and microbes that interact with plants. The grant for the DOE Center for Plant and Microbial Complex Carbohydrates, the only center of its kind in the U.S., has been renewed six times since it was originally awarded in 1986

Playing the field
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Club Sports Complex on South Milledge Avenue, was held March 18. It was followed by a kickball game between administrators and students.
CURO symposium adds new features as it grows and expands for 2009
Students who participate in undergraduate research at UGA will have an opportunity to share the results of their work with a larger audience at the annual spring symposium sponsored by the Honors Program’s Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities. This year’s symposium will be held April 6 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens.

Delta Prize winner issues call for a world free of nuclear weapons
President to review proposal for council voice in provost selection
A proposal introduced on the floor of the University Council meeting March 19 that would involve the search committee for the next provost is under review by UGA President Michael F. Adams.
Coca-Cola exec will give annual Woodroof Lecture
Rhona Applebaum, a food-­industry leader with The Coca-Cola Co., will deliver the 2009 Woodroof Lecture April 2 at 2 p.m. in Masters Hall of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. Her lecture, entitled “Through the Looking Glass—Perspectives from a Career in Food Science: Past, Present and Future, ” is open free to the public.
Summer: Wide array of camps, activities being offered
From graphic design to dancing, camps at UGA have something for everyone from toddlers to teens this summer. Programs range from a few hours in class to several days on campus with the option to stay overnight in the residence halls. Subject matters vary from Newton’s laws of physics to puppet shows about the environment.
