Speakers announced for spring semester graduation exercises
Spring Commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students May 9 will feature a Congressman and a financial expert, respectively.
U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston of Savannah will speak at the undergraduate ceremony in Sanford Stadium at 9:30 a.m. In case of severe weather, the ceremony will be moved to Stegeman Coliseum and split into two sessions, at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

The university will recognize top student scholars, superior teachers and outstanding faculty advisers and mentors at the annual Honors Day program April 22. |
Sophomore named 2009 Barry Goldwater Scholar
Muktha Natrajan, a sophomore in the Honors Program, is a 2009 recipient of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, a prominent national award for undergraduates in math, science and engineering. Natrajan, who is from Martinez, is enrolled in a combined bachelor’s/master’s program in which she will earn a bachelor of science degree in genetics and a master of public health degree in environmental health science. |

Man of service: Arthur Dunning’s work honored with Fulfilling Dream Award
Read between the lines of Arthur Dunning’s career, and a clear point emerges: The definition of diversity needs to change.
His work as vice president for public service and outreach spans education and service, just as his life does. But the reason Dunning was recently awarded the President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award, which recognizes UGA employees and community members who work in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., is due to his commitment to a new paradigm in diversity outreach and service. |
Former EPD manager will lead Environmental Safety Division
A long-term manager in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division of the Department of Natural Resources has been hired to lead UGA’s Environmental Safety Division. John McCollum of Watkinsville, a 15-year veteran of the EPD, will begin work as associate vice president for environmental safety on April 20. |
