2020 vision: Prep work begins on university's 10-year strategic plan
The university has embarked on a long-range planning exercise to envision what it might look like in the year 2020.

As part of its decennial re- accreditation process, the university has formed a strategic planning committee to determine top institutional goals and priorities for the next 10 years and recommend ways to achieve them.

The committee’s report will help guide decisions on academics and research, public service and outreach, student recruitment, resource allocation, physical growth and UGA’s leadership role in Georgia and the nation in the second decade of the
21st century.

Front and center: Expansion to Tate Student Center opens with new eateries and meeting space
After two years of construction, the 100,000-square-foot addition to the Tate Student Center opened June 1. Funded by student fees, the space expands space for student organizations and features conference rooms, eateries and a lounge.
Cabrera named new Georgia Power Prof in soil chemistry
Miguel Cabrera has been named the inaugural Georgia Power Professor in Environmental Remediation and Soil Chemistry at UGA.
UGA researchers, students attend industry event for biotechnology
In May, the university took part in the world’s largest annual biotechnology industry event for the first time bringing researchers, students and staff to Atlanta for four days of networking, marketing and insights into major trends affecting the industry.
New Web-based system to speed up federal proposal submission process
A simple Web-based proposal creation and submission system for federal grant applications rolls out this summer to assist principal investigators across campus. Its main attractions: speed and accuracy.
Finalists for international education post visit campus
Four finalists have been named for the position of associate provost for international education. They will be on campus for interviews and meetings with faculty and staff.
Economic development duties shift to director of BioBusiness Center
The official who coordinated economic development efforts at UGA has moved to a new position, and her former duties have been assumed by the director of UGA’s BioBusiness Center.
