Adams: Jobs safe for now
Economic hardships are pounding the university, but jobs are safe for now and the level of service will remain strong despite furloughs, UGA President Michael F. Adams told a packed Tate Student Center Theater crowd at a candid budget update presentation Aug. 20.

Following regents’ orders, UGA institutes furloughs
To comply with a University System Board of Regents directive, the university has designated six days during the 2009-2010 academic year as furlough days. They are: Oct. 30, Nov. 25, Dec. 24, Jan. 4, March 8 and April 30. On those days, employees who are subject to the furlough policy will not come to work and will not be paid. Some employees who maintain essential operations will report on those days and work with their department heads to develop alternate furlough plans.
Engineering review affirms integrity of all parking decks
A review of UGA’s parking decks by an independent structural engineering firm has confirmed the decks’ structural integrity and maintenance. President Michael F. Adams instructed Tim Burgess, senior vice president for finance and administration, to have the decks inspected in the wake of a parking deck’s collapse in Atlanta in June.
Dedication set for new student learning center on Griffin Campus
Dedication ceremonies will be held Aug. 26 for the new student learning center on the university’s Griffin Campus.
