Volunteers for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic
The Georgia unit of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic is looking for more volunteers. UGA is an institutional member of RFB&D, which enabled more than 30 UGA students to borrow 216 textbooks last year. RFB&D Georgia’s 150 volunteers read student-requested textbooks onto tape at the unit’s modern studio--the only one in the state--at 120 Florida Ave. on the edge of campus. More than two-thirds of the volunteers come from UGA--undergraduates, graduate students, staff, faculty, administrators and retirees.
Volunteers begin with a four-hour training program and then commit to at least one 90-minute recording session each week. They work in teams, one volunteer reading the text while the other monitors the equipment and manages recording quality.
The studio operates seven 90-minute daytime recording shifts a week, as well as evening sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in order to dovetail volunteer commitment with class or work schedules. For more information about borrowing texts from RFB&D or about volunteering, call 549-1313.

Instructional software consultations
The Office of Instructional Support and Development is offering individual and group consulting for software used for preparing instructional materials, such as WebCT and PowerPoint. Check the Web site (isd.uga.edu) for additional information. For an appointment, call or e-mail Margaret Anderson at ISD (542-1355 or manderso@uga.edu).

Enrichment fund forms
Reimbursement forms for the Student/Faculty Enrichment Fund are available from the Office of Student Affairs, 201 Academic Building.
The enrichment fund was created by President Adams to support voluntary out-of-class gatherings hosted by faculty in their homes.
Full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty are eligible to use the fund. The event must be an informal social gathering primarily for undergraduate students who are members of a current class taught by the requesting faculty member. Student attendance and participation must be voluntary and should not replace regularly scheduled class time. No alcohol can be consumed.
Receipts and a list of participants are required for reimbursement, which cannot exceed $5 per student and $300 per gathering.
Inquiries about modifying the guidelines to meet special circumstances should be addressed to Thomas Cochran, 201 Academic Building.

Master Gardener classes
Applications are now being accepted for master-gardener classes, to be offered by the State Botanical Garden and the Cooperative Extension Service on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7-9 p.m., from Jan. 12 through March 23. The program provides intensive training in horticultural principles and practices, pest management, soils, vegetable gardening and landscaping. Applications must be submitted by Dec. 7. For further information or an application form, call the garden at 542-6156.

Bulletin Board prints announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff. Send notices by e-mail, campus mail or fax. Next deadline: Sept. 10.
