University Computing and Networking Services offers guidance for UGA units that want to be “on the Web.”
In addition to detailed instructions on registering a completed Web page, the site offers links and guidelines for those at the beginning of the process. One segment, called “The Seven Cs of Web-Service Design,” lists the seven goals the UCNS Webmasters adopted in setting up the system, goals which can also serve as a useful reminder to Web-page designers. They are:
• Comprehensiveness
• Currentness
• Client orientation
• Clarity over coolness
• Courtesy over coolness
• Compatibility without compromise
• Cross-linking and validation
Each of these is explained; links lead the reader to further information.
The “help” link takes the user to a menu of guidelines, policies and resources. Among other options, there’s an introduction to HTML--HyperText Markup Language--the coding language that makes the Web work. Other links invite the user to investigate imagemaps, search engines, page counters, guest books, forms and more.
