Houle Scholars
The first contingent of Cyril O. Houle Scholars in Adult and Continuing Education have been announced by the department of adult education.
Houle Scholars receive a financial award of up to $40,000 over two years to support research or demonstration projects in adult education. Nine scholars near the beginning of their careers are selected each year--two from South Africa, two from Latin America and five from the United States.
Houle Scholars participate in two retreats each year. In addition, the scholars carry on a continuous exchange of ideas using the Internet, and consult with faculty in UGA’s adult education department about their research projects.
This year’s Houle Scholars are Carolyn M. Clark, Texas A&M University; Irene Chadibe, the University of South Africa; Javier Corvalan, Centro de Investigacion y Desarrollo de la Educacion (Chile); Barbara J. Daley, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Zelda Groener, University of the Western Cape (South Africa); Juan Madrigal, Universidad Pedagogica Nacional (Mexico); Fred M.
