GRA investigator to expand infectious diseases initiative

Citizen advocate to give keynote address at BFSO Founders Day
Janice Mathis, a UGA alumna and vice president of the nonprofit Citizenship Education Fund, will deliver the keynote address at the seventh annual Black Faculty and Staff Organization’s Founders Day Luncheon at noon Sept. 22 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.
Globis director will discuss his role in release of two journalists
Han S. Park, director of UGA’s Center for the Study of Global Issues, will discuss the role he played in last month’s release of journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling.
UGA will host second annual meeting on state education at Gwinnett Campus
More than 100 of Georgia’s top education leaders and policy-makers are expected to attend the College of Education’s second annual Education in Georgia: A State of the State Report on Oct. 1 at UGA’s Gwinnett Campus.

Four UGA cancer researchers are among the 18 selected as Distinguished Cancer Clinicians and Scientists by the Georgia Cancer Coalition for 2009-2010.
Music professor, trumpet virtuoso Fred Mills dies
W. Fred Mills, a renowned trumpet virtuoso and professor in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, died following injuries in a traffic accident in Walton County on Sept. 7. He was 74 years old.
Workshops are being held for eLearning Commons
UGA’s Center for Teaching and Learning and Enterprise Information Technology Services are offering a series of workshops to help with the university’s ongoing migration from WebCT to eLearning Commons.
Advising Certificate Graduates
The UGA Academic Advising Certificate, developed by advisers Amber Fetner and Elizabeth Sproston and offered through Training and Development, began in 2008. At the Aug. 28 workshop the cocreators were recognized with the 20 individuals who completed the program in its first year.
