International study suggestions
Last spring, the International Studies Committee was charged by President Adams to examine the universitys international programs and to make recommendations for future development of study-abroad opportunities.
This committee continues to solicit ideas for successful, creative programming and program funding, as well as proposals for future year-round residential sites. The committee will be submitting a preliminary report to the president in October, followed by a final report in December.
Please direct any suggestions, questions or ideas in writing as soon as possible to Gary Bertsch, chair, International Studies Committee, department of political science, 204 Baldwin Hall.
Peabody judges sought
Faculty members who are interested in serving on Peabody Awards screening committees are invited to send a brief letter or e-mail indicating their interest and their relevant experience by Nov. 13.
Each screening committee consists of two faculty members (one from the College of Journalism and Mass Communication) and a student (selected on a competitive basis). They spend 75-100 hours (mainly in February) reviewing television and radio programs entered in the Peabody competition.Committees prepare a capsule critique of each program and a short essay in support of those very few programs they wish to commend to the Peabody Board for the award.
Faculty members with expertise in media and the arts, child and family development, politics and political affairs and international issues are especially encouraged to apply. Faculty judges receive $500 in compensation, as well as complimentary luncheon tickets to the May 17 Peabody Awards presentation in New York.
Letters of interest should be addressed to Barry Sherman, director, or Tom Hoover, activities coordinator (542-3787 or peabody@arches.uga.edu).
