Experimental color photos
The main gallery of the Lamar Dodd School of Art is currently displaying more than 50 experimental color photographs by Wiley Sanderson, professor emeritus of art and former director of photographic design at UGA. Sanderson has expanded on an experimental color technique known as the Joly Color process, invented by Sir John Joly in 1894 before color film had been developed. Introduction to fractals
The mathematics department's annual James. C. Cantrell Lecture Series will be given this year by John Milnor, professor of mathematics and director of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. At 4 p.m. Oct. 8 in physics building room 202, Milnor will give a general lecture--"Pasting Together Julia Sets"--exploring fractal geometry from an introductory point of view. The following two days, he will lead mathematical colloquia at 4 p.m. in room 328 of the Boyd Graduate Studies Research Center. For more information, call 542-2544.
Marimba concert
Makoto Nakura will perform on the marimba as part of the Performing Arts Center's Ramsey Concert Hall Series on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. In 1994, Nakura became the first marimbist ever to win the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Photo: Barry Lopez, winner of the National Book Award and numerous other awards for his nature writing, will be a Center for Humanities and Arts visiting artist in early October. Works in a variety of media by faculty members of the Lamar Dodd School of Art are currently on display at the Georgia Museum of Art. A traveler's landscapes
The State Botanical Garden is currently exhibiting Landscapes by Lynwood Hall, paintings in watercolors and oils inspired by Hall's wide travels. The visitor center is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

String quartet fusion
The Turtle Island String Quartet opens the Forte season with a concert in Hodgson Hall on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. The innovative quartet combines jazz, blues, pop and bluegrass. Tickets are $15-$18 ($6-$8 for students) from the cashier's window in the Tate Student Center (542-8074, open 9 a.m.-4 p.m.).
Brooks Lecture
The annual D.W. Brooks Lecture sponsored by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences will be given by Jerry D. Caulder, emeritus chairman of Mycogen Corp., at 11 a.m. Oct. 6 in the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. His topic will be "Agricultural Research: Truth, Justice and the American Way."

John F. Crowley, dean of the School of Environmental Design, demonstrates the diversity of his career history with an exhibition in the SED Gallery called Jack of All Trades: 1978-1996. 19th-century art
American paintings and neoclassical sculptures from the West Foundation Collection are currently on long-term loan at the Georgia Museum of Art, where they will be on display through Nov. 16.
