Dawg Fest ’98

Superstar comedian Bill Cosby headlines a jam-packed week of reunions, dances, tours, cookouts and contests as the university holds “Dawg Fest ’98,” its annual Homecoming celebration, Oct. 11–17.
Thousands of alumni are expected back on campus for the festivities, which also include a parade and pep rally in downtown Athens and the Oct. 17 Georgia-Vanderbilt football game in Sanford Stadium, where Mr. and Ms. Georgia Homecoming will be crowned.

Down a garden path

Tucked away behind Baldwin Hall on North Campus, a new garden will soon be providing visitors with beauty and knowledge. There will be nothing else quite like it in Georgia.
The public is invited to a small ceremony honorig the first planting at the garden on Oct.
12, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the site on the corner of Thomas and Baldwin

New telephone exchange planned

The campus community will have to get used to dialing a new telephone prefix this month. The exchange 583- will come into use later in October in addition to the long-standing prefix 542- for UGA phones.

Lee. S. Shulman, president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, will give the 1998 Louise McBee Lecture at the university Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel.
