Holiday buffet, cookbook
The Tate Student Center is offering "Cook's Holiday Express," its annual series of luncheon buffets from Dec. 8 through Dec. 11 in Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center. Serving begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m.

To celebrate 10 years of Cook's Holiday, Tate Center Food Services also is selling a cookbook. Available during the Cook's Holiday Express, the cookbook costs $10. To order an advance copy, call 542-1856.


World AIDS Day
The campus chapter of the AIDS Coalition of Northeast Georgia is sponsoring World AIDS Day activities Dec. 1-6. The theme of this year's observance is "Give Children Hope in a World with AIDS." On Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., a commemoration service, led by members of the Campus Ministry Association, will be held at the Catholic Center, located at 1344 S. Lumpkin St.

On Dec. 3, a 90-foot red ribbon symbolizing remembrance and compassion for people with AIDS will be placed on North Campus near the Arch. That evening at 7 p.m. a candlelight vigil will be held near the ribbon, which will be displayed through Dec. 6.

The Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus will give a concert Dec. 6 in the Chapel to benefit the AIDS Coalition of Northeast Georgia. Tickets ($12 for students and $15 for all others) are available at the AIDS Coalition of Northeast Georgia office, 1376 S. Lumpkin St., and several local businesses. Call 542-AIDS for more details.


Research proposals
The Faculty Research Commercialization Program is seeking proposals for innovative business and product development funding. FRCP will hold an informational session Dec. 10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Boyd Graduate Studies Research Center in the conference room of the vice president for research.

Administered by the Advanced Technology Development Center, FRCP is part of the Economic Development Institute at Georgia Tech. The program awards an average of $50,000 per project to propel promising technologies from the research arena to viable commercial products and services. It encourages the formation of technology start-up companies and the development of licensing income streams.

Funding can be used for salary, equipment, materials, testing resources, business consulting, etc. The funds are exempt from university overhead. All academic and research faculty of the six Georgia Research Alliance universities--Georgia Tech, Georgia State, the University of Georgia, Clark Atlanta, the Medical College of Georgia and Emory--are eligible to apply.

Proposal previews for FRCP funding are due by Jan. 19; the deadline to submit the proposal is March 16. Both must be submitted to be considered.

European Center lecture
The European Center will sponsor a lecture by the Honorable Peter Marshall Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. Her Majesty's Consul-General from the British Consulate-General in Atlanta, Marshall will discuss "The New British Government, the European Union and the New Single Currency."


Grant applications
Applications are being accepted until Dec. 15 for women's studies travel grants for the 1997-1998 academic year. Non-tenured core and affiliated faculty with the UGA Women's Studies Program are eligible to apply. Ranging from $500 to $1,000, the grants may represent all or part of expenses incurred on academic travel, but their primary aim is to help women's studies faculty promote and further their own research. IBR presentation
The Institute for Behavioral Research will present a colloquium and discussion by William C. Howell Dec. 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 137 of the Tate Student Center. The executive officer for science at the American Psychological Association, Howell will discuss "Confronting Reality: Is Psychological Science Up to the Challenge?"
