The beginning of the holiday season is just around the corner and there is no better way to inaugurate the season than with a special concert. On Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. the School of Music and the Office of Performing Arts will present "A Georgia Brass Christmas," featuring holiday music arranged for brass ensembles and chorus.
"What is a holiday concert without brass and a sing-along?" asks Fred Mills, professor of trumpet and brass ensembles at the music school and coordinator of this event. Mills adds that "the concert will have a Canadian Brass flavor, with the audience feeling as if they are part of the performance." The sing-along will include Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus and other holiday favorites.
Members of the Georgia Brass are faculty and graduate students at the music school. The program will also include selections by the UGA Concert Choir, conducted by Edgar Scruggs, and an appearance by Stephanie Pierce, a member of the music school's voice faculty.
"A Georgia Brass Christmas" will take place in Hodgson Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children, students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts Center box office, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by calling 542-4400.
