Community Friend program
The Athens International Council sponsors a Community Friend Program that matches international students and scholars with persons in the Athens community. There is no fixed agenda, although community friends often invite students or scholars home for a meal and attend sports or cultural events together. The program gives participants an awareness of other countries and cultures and builds relationships between Americans and visitors from other countries.
The Athens International Council is composed of individuals and groups in Athens and surrounding communities who further cultural exchange and understanding between Americans and international visitors. At present more than 1,200 international students and more than 200 faculty and staff from abroad are studying or working at UGA. AIC is committed to helping them adjust to the university and the Athens community by coordinating the Community Friend Program, co-sponsoring international coffee hours with the International Student Life Office and providing emergency loans for international students.
For information about becoming a community friend, call Larry Hymo, AIC president,
546-7127, or Maggie Eilers, vice president, 546-8241, or e-mail 75156.2366@Compuserve.com.

Bulletin Board prints announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff. Send notices by e-mail, campus mail or fax. Next deadline: Nov. 5.
