Benjamin G. Brackett, professor of physiology and pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine, recently traveled to Milan, Italy, to accept the Lazzaro Spallanzani International Award in Animal Reproduction.
The award was granted on the basis of the high number of nominations Brackett received from an international panel for his research in biology and in vitro technology, and “for the extraordinary input he has given to the transfer of information from basic science to animal breeding,” according to Professor Giuseppe Enne, chairman of the Scientific Board of the Spallanzani Institute.
The award was presented at a special conference marking the 50th anniversary of the International Congress on Animal Reproduction. Brackett is the second recipient of the Spallanzani International Award, which is presented once every four years.

Susan E. Little, assistant professor of parasitology in the College of Veterinary Medicine, received the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Excellence in Teaching Award, given each year to a faculty member at one of North America’s 28 veterinary colleges.

Neal Weatherly,
an associate professor in the School of Environmental Design, has been inducted as a Fellow into the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Weatherly was recognized for his service to the society’s Georgia chapter where he served as treasurer for a number of years and continues to coordinate continuing education programs.

Bonnie Yegidis, dean of the School of Social Work, has been named Social Worker of the Year by the Georgia chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She received the honor Oct. 8 at the annual meeting of the organization in Atlanta.
Yegidis began her tenure as dean at Georgia in 1995. During this time, she has been instrumental in developing a statewide consortium of deans and directors of schools of social work and has been instrumental in joint projects between several schools of social work, according to her nomination letter.
In addition to her duties as dean, Yegidis serves on the board of directors of the Athens Area Rape Crisis Center and the Child Welfare Institute in Atlanta, and is a member of the steering committee of the Athens Justice Project.
