The Coalition of Americas Colleges and Universities--a broad umbrella group of higher education organizations and institutions--has launched a national education campaign called College Is Possible. The goal is to help students and their families understand college costs and financial aid.
The coalitions Web site offers links and information on books, brochures and other Web sites recommended by admissions and financial aid professionals. The information is also distributed in a brochure (printed in both English and Spanish) available from the U.S. Department of Education.
Although the campaign does not address the specifics of college financing in individual states--such as Georgias HOPE scholarships--it does provide clear introductory information. What are the costs beyond tuition? How is student aid calculated? What is the student contribution? Especially notable is the discussion of misconceptions about college financing, from Only the very rich can afford college to Only big-time athletes get scholarships.
The 20 participating organizations include the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, the American Council on Education, the Association of American Universities, the College Board and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
