| Phil Hale Research Coordinator II School of Forest Resources JOB DESCRIPTION: I work primarily with the wildlife faculty and serve as a liaison between them and graduate students to aid in thesis research. My expertise is wildlife habitat management, plant identification and food habit analyses. I attempt to provide assistance to the students in the field and in the lab; in addition, I am involved with writing research proposals and developing budgets within the department. YEARS IN CURRENT POSITION: 22. MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: Working with the graduate students. Each one has a different project, and the students have different backgrounds and educational experiences. Its a challenge to mesh with them as far as their knowledge of particular things, but its rewarding as well. OTHER UGA EXPERIENCE: I earned both my bachelors and masters degrees in forest resources here at the university, in 1972 and 1978, respectively. IF I WASNT DOING THIS JOB, ID MOST LIKE TO: Be in archaeology or anthropology. Primitive cultures and their artifacts are fields in which Ive always had an interest. OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: Our three daughters--Elizabeth, whos 16; Sarah, whos 14; and Rebecca, whos 10--are in all sorts of activities especially sports so my wife and I are usually chasing them around. FAVORITE MUSIC: Bluegrass and folk. A BOOK ID RECOMMEND TO OTHERS: Right now Im reading something that everyone else read five years ago--Praying for Sheet Rock, by Melissa Greene. Its a historical account of the Civil Rights movement along the Georgia coast. AN ISSUE THAT MOST CONCERNS ME ABOUT TODAYS WORLD: Population growth and the urbanization of the landscape here in the Athens area. |
