Hargrett Library to close temporarily

By Jean Cleveland

The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library will be closed to the public Feb. 22 through March 5.
When the special collections library reopens March 6, it will be temporarily located on the fourth floor of the main library. Its permanent home is on the third floor.
The Hargrett Library encompasses the university’s collection of rare books, manuscripts, the University of Georgia Archives and the Georgia Room, which has books by Georgians and about Georgia.
The closing is necessitated by the multi-year, $4 million renovation of the main library’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The equipment in the original building is being refurbished one floor at a time.
Library employees will move the materials while the library is closed. Telephone and computer services will be interrupted minimally and full service will resume when the Hargrett Library reopens.
The third floor renovation is expected to be completed at the end of summer, and the Hargrett Library will then return to normal quarters.
